01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
About this place
In a quiet residential pocket of Shimogyo Ward, Necktie Coffee quietly opens its doors from 9:00 in a traditional machiya townhouse that retains its vintage fittings and earthen plaster walls. Alongside counter seating, a raised tatami alcove invites guests to step up and settle in—an effortless refuge whether you want to read alone or pause to rest your feet while exploring the city.
Morning Toast and Satisfying Light Fare
A comforting fixture in the morning hours is the breakfast plate, gathering buttered toast, salad, ham, and Japanese-style rolled omelet on a single dish. The toast selection extends well beyond the basics, spanning rich cheese-laden croque monsieur, pizza toast, and anko butter toast topped with homemade sweet red bean paste and whipped butter folded with fresh cream.
Careful Hand-Drips and Fresh Baked Treats
At the counter, the owner brews each cup slowly upon order, tasting along the way to ensure balance. The coffee highlights the unique character of each bean, from crisp, fruity light-roast iced brews to rich and rounded blends. Alongside the coffee, options include a rich yet lightly sweetened Basque cheesecake, as well as a rotating assortment of baked treats such as scones and chocolate chip cookies.
Whole beans and baked goods are also available to take away, rounding out a peaceful space that feels like an easy extension of everyday life.
